The Choir
The Neath Port Talbot Cancer Challenge Singers choir was formed by Joan Lewis, MBE, in 1999 to act as a spearhead for the Neath Port Talbot Cancer Challenge Charity which Joan had formed in 1997. The mixed choir has over 50 members. The choir is under the musical directorship of Gwen Shenton.
Although based in the Neath - Port Talbot area of South Wales the choir frequently visits other parts of the UK and has toured Europe on many occasions, having been to France, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Belgium and Jersey. While on tour the choir has helped to raise money for local charities.
Since its formation the choir's activities have contributed over £100,000 to the more than million pounds raised by the Neath Port-Talbot Cancer Challenge Charity.
Celebrating 25 years of the Cancer Challenge Singers
The choir celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024. To mark the occasion the choir recorded a video of Vivaldi Gloria at St. Mary's Church, Swansea. We also recorded "As Long As I Have Music" in memory of three dedicated members, Jennifer Walters, Sylvia Stubbins and Afril Curtis, who passed away during 2023.
