2025 Annual Concert
The Choir's 2025 Annual Concert took place on 20th September at St. David's Church, Neath.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our guests, Côr Dur a Môr and the Briton Ferry Silver Band, for their superb performances which contributed greatly to the success of the evening and also to compère Alun Saunders who kept the audience entertained and ensured the whole evening ran very smoothly.
The Annual Concert could never have happened without the tireless efforts of the Choir's Committee, our Musical Director Gwen Shenton and accompanist Ian Lewis and so, to all of them, the choristors extend their grateful thanks.
Gwen, who has only been our Musical Director since the beginning of the year, made an immediate impact on the choir but has not restricted her enthusiasm solely to the choir's musical activities. Wishing to contribute to our sister organisation, the Neath Port Talbot Cancer Challenge Charity, Gwen took part in the Swansea Half Marathon and "persuaded" her brother, who lived in Canada at the time, to undertake a similar effort there. Their combined efforts raised a magnificent £1,100 in sponsorship for the charity.

The Choir
The Neath Port Talbot Cancer Challenge Singers choir was formed by Joan Lewis, MBE, in 1999 to act as a spearhead for the Neath Port Talbot Cancer Challenge Charity which Joan had formed in 1997. The mixed choir has over 50 members. The choir is under the musical directorship of Gwen Shenton and our accompanist is Ian Lewis.
Although based in the Neath - Port Talbot area of South Wales the choir frequently visits other parts of the UK and has toured Europe on many occasions, having been to France, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Belgium and Jersey. While on tour the choir has helped to raise money for local charities.
Since its formation the choir's activities have contributed over £100,000 to the more than million pounds raised by the Neath Port-Talbot Cancer Challenge Charity.
Celebrating 25 years of the Cancer Challenge Singers
The choir celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024. To mark the occasion the choir recorded a video of Vivaldi Gloria at St. Mary's Church, Swansea. We also recorded "As Long As I Have Music" in memory of three dedicated members, Jennifer Walters, Sylvia Stubbins and Afril Curtis, who passed away during 2023.
